Developer Obsidian Entertainment once again proved to us at yesterday's Xbox Games Showcase conference why it is currently considered the most diligent studio owned by Microsoft. This year, they have already released a major RPG called Avowed, and even though it has only been a few months since its release, the studio is already preparing to release a new major title, The Outer Worlds 2, which received a substantial new presentation yesterday.
The sequel will still be a sci-fi RPG, which this time we can explore from a first-person or third-person perspective. We will play as an agent of the Earth Directorate agency, facing a difficult task of trying to save the entire universe. Destructive cracks have appeared in the sky everywhere, threatening the entire human civilization and all the colonies we have settled. Our journey will take us to the colony Arcadia, which has its own problems, as two factions have started fighting there, and we will of course have to pledge our allegiance to one of them.
The Outer Worlds 2 will build on everything presented in the original game, aiming to improve all aspects and provide players with a deeper gameplay system. Character development will now be much more important, and players will be able to create characters with low intelligence who will have unique dialogues, and even fix a machine by simply hitting it. The experience point investment system will also be overhauled, and some skills look extremely fun as they include both positives and negatives. For example, one skill will give us a bonus in selling stolen items, but the negative side is that sometimes just by looking at an item, we will automatically steal it, which can be a problem if we steal something in front of the owner. Another skill improves our stealth, but the downside is that once we stand up from a crouch... The Outer Worlds 2 will be released on October 29th this year, but with an additional downside, as this will be the first Microsoft title to have a higher price tag. Pre-ordering on Steam will cost you 80 €, while the Premium version will cost 100 €. Fortunately, we will also be able to play this title on the day of release using the Game Pass service.
